Charles Woodson Ready To Take Over At Strong Safety?

Yesterday, the Green Bay Packers made a surprising roster move when they released last year’s starting  strong safety Charlie Peprah. While he’s still dealing with a knee injury, it seemed as though they’d give him an opportunity to retain his starting role this season, but the Packers are obviously encouraged by their other options.

With that being said, Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin reports that Charles Woodson has opened that Packers training camp at strong safety in their base defense. In nickel packages, the Packers have Woodson returning to the slot corner position, with M.D. Jennings playing safety in these sets.

This has been rumored to be a possibility for a few year’s now, so it certainly comes with little surprise. It seems more likely that the Packers will use Woodson in a number of ways, rather than limit him to just one position.
