Charles Woodson’s Final Season In Green Bay?

Green Bay Packers beat writer Tom Silverstein opines that this will most likely be Charles Woodson‘s final season with the team.

Having suffered a broken collarbone twice and due $9 million next year, it’s hard to imagine the team bringing him back,” writes Silverstein, via the Sporting News.

Woodson has been a very important component in the Packers defense since he arrived a number of years ago, but he shown a noticeable decline in coverage, which led him being moved to safety this season. He suffered his second fractured collarbone in the last two years and as Silvestein mentions, Packers GM Ted Thompson has been “stocking his secondary with young talent.”

He’s under team control for another two season, but $9 million per season will force the team to reconsider his roster spot. As we’ve mentioned numerous times now, the Packers will have to address some big names like Greg Jennings, Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews and B.J. Raji in the coming years, so they’ll have to consider freeing some available cash to ensure that all of them will be in Green Bay for the coming seasons.
