Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that veteran QB Chase Daniel has requested to be released by the Eagles and the team plans to grant him his wish and cut him loose on Monday.
According to Caplan, the Eagles had been working on a trade involving Daniel the past few days with a team that would benefit him, but both sides felt it was mutually beneficial to release him now.
This comes shortly after the news that Philadelphia has signed Nick Foles to a two-year deal.
It was clear that Daniel wasn’t going to be back with the Eagles in 2017, as reports have said for a while now that he was available for trade. As a free agent, Daniel could draw a decent amount of interest.
Daniel, 30, originally signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri back in 2010. He spent three years in New Orleans before signing on with the Chiefs in 2013.
After another three years in Kansas City, Daniels signed a three-year, $21 million contract that included $12 million guaranteed with the Eagles last year. He stands to make base salaries of $7 million for the next two years.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Daniel would free up $6 million of available cap space while creating $2 million in dead money.
In 2016, Daniel appeared in one game for the Eagles and completed one pass for 16 yards.
