Chiefs Considering Only Three Players At No. 1 Overall?

According to Albert Breer of NFL.com, who spoke with Chiefs GM John Dorsey on Monday, they’re considering four players at No. 1 overall.

Dorsey added that they intend to make a final decision four days before the NFL Draft later this month.

Russ Lande reports that his sources have informed him that Kansas City is only considering Central Michigan OT Eric Fisher, Texas A&M Luke Joeckel and Oregon DE/OLB Dion Jordan.

West Virginia QB Geno Smith will meet with the Chiefs at some point this week, but it seems unlikely that they would use the first pick on a quarterback now that they’ve traded for Alex Smith and Geno isn’t considering the be a can’t-miss prospect.

Some have also mentioned that Florida DT Shariff Floyd is deserving of consideration as high as No. 1 overall, but Kansas City elected to retain Tyson Jackson and signed DE Mike Devito in free agency, so their defensive line appears to be in place.

The general consensus has been that Joeckel is best player in this year’s draft class, but Fisher and Jordan have done plenty to at least garner some consideration.

For what it’s worth, we have the Chiefs taking Joeckel with the first pick in our 2013 NFL Mock Draft.
