Chiefs Could Allow QB Alex Smith To Move On After This Season?

La Canfora specifically refers to Smith as a “Band-aid quarterback” and believes Chase Daniel or rookie Aaron Murray could end up being serviceable quarterbacks.

Contracts talks between the Chiefs and Smith reportedly been progressing “very, very slowly,” they are expected to continue in the coming months.

In the event that Chiefs and Smith are able to reach an agreement, La Canfora wouldn’t rule out Kansas City shopping Daniel, especially if a team were to suffer an injury at quarterback.

Smith, 29, is entering the final year of his current deal and will make $7.5 million for the 2014 season. He counts just as much against the Chiefs salary cap, so a long-term deal would offer them some cap relief.
