Chiefs Emerge As “Sleeper Team” Vying To Sign QB Nick Foles

Adam Schefter reports that the Chiefs have emerged as a “sleeper team” that is now vying to sign free agent QB Nick Foles.

The Chiefs can offer the ability to backup Alex Smith and work with Andy Reid, who’s known for his work with quarterbacks before trying to secure an opportunity to compete for a starting job next year.

Earlier in the day, Mike Garafolo reported that the Cowboys are just one of a “handful” of NFL teams pursuing Foles, but this is the first we’ve heard about the Chiefs.

The Cowboys confirmed their interest in Foles, but also said that they’ve spoken to other teams about a potential trade for a backup quarterback.

The expectation right now is that Foles could sign on with a new team at some point in the next day or two.

It’s worth mentioning that the Vikings have been linked to Foles as well in recent days, so they’re also worth keeping an eye on.

Foles, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. After three years in Philadelphia, Foles was sent to the Rams in a trade from the Eagles that shipped Sam Bradford to Philadelphia. He had one year remaining on his rookie contract when the Rams signed him to a two-year, $24 million extension back in August of last year.

In 2015, Foles completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 2,052 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
