Chiefs Expected To Have Interest In S D.J. Swearinger

According to Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs will “look hard” at possibly adding S D.J. Swearinger, who is being waived by the Redskins.

Mellinger adds that this doesn’t mean the Chiefs will sign Swearinger, as he has the “character concern” label. However, he’s expected to get serious consideration from Kansas City.

Swearinger should hit waivers on Monday, which means the Chiefs would either have to claim or wait for him to clear waivers before he’ll be available to sign with a team of his choosing.

The Chiefs could clearly use an impact safety like Swearinger, so this is something to keep an eye on in the coming days.

Swearinger, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Texans back in 2013. He lasted just over two years in Houston before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later claimed off of waivers by the Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay cut him loose during the 2015 season and he eventually caught on with the Cardinals.

The Redskins signed Swearinger to a three-year, $13.5 million contract back in 2017.

In 2018, Swearinger has appeared in 15 games for the Redskins and recorded 52 tackles, one sack, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, a recovery and 10 pass defenses.
