Chiefs “Extremely Confident” Eric Berry Plays This Season, But Timetable Uncertain

Jason La Canfora reports that the Chiefs remain “extremely confident” that S Eric Berry will play this season after missing the first six games.

Berry is returning from an Achilles tear and has been dealing with Haglund’s deformity, which is a bone spur that digs into the Achilles. He hasn’t been practicing with the team but is still focused on returning to the team and the Chiefs are monitoring his status on a weekly basis.

As of now, the Chiefs have yet to designate a particular date for Berry to return, but he’s still “very much” in the team’s plans this season and should be back at some point during the second half.

Berry, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010. He worked his way back from Hodgkin’s lymphoma and managed to produce an impressive 2015 season.

Berry played out his rookie contract with the team before receiving the team’s franchise tag last year. However, the two parties ultimately agreed to a new six-year, $78 million contract that includes $29.8 million guaranteed.

Berry stands to make base salaries of $12.4 million and $9.4 million over the next two years.

In 2017, Berry appeared in one game and recorded seven tackles for the Chiefs.

We’ll have more regarding Berry as the news is available.
