Chiefs Could Get RB Jamaal Charles Back For Playoffs

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the recent knee surgery Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles underwent was just to trim his meniscusĀ and not a full repair. With this in mind, Rapoport says that this procedure could allow Charles to return in weeks rather than months.

If the Chiefs were to designate Charles are their player to return from injured reserve, the earliest he could be back is eight weeks.

According to Rapoport, the target date for Charles to return would be Week 17, which means he would be available to help them in the playoffs, assuming they secure a spot in the postseason.

Chiefs RB Spencer Ware left last Sunday’s with a concussion, which prompted the team to sign Bishop Sankey off of the Patriots’ practice squad and bring back Knile Davis yesterday.

However, Charcandrick West figures to get the bulk of the carries this week.

Charles, 29, is in the thirdĀ year of hisĀ four-year, $28 million contractĀ that includedĀ $8.3 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $2.75 million (2016), andĀ $3.75 million (2017) over the remainder of the contract.

This season, Charles has appeared in three games and rushed for 40 yards on 12 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with two receptions for 14 yards receiving and a touchdown.
