Chiefs Hosting Free Agent OL Tim Barnes For A Visit

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Dispatch reports that the Chiefs are hosting free agent OL Tim Barnes for a visit on Monday.

Kansas City could use some interior offensive line help after losing Rodney Hudson to the Raiders, but it’s hard to imagine Barnes being able to step in and be an adequate replacement to a Pro Bowl-caliber player.

Barnes, 26, signed on with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri back in 2011. He was a restricted free agent, but the Rams elected to not tender him contract before the start of free agency.

Last year, Barnes appeared in 14 games for the Rams, but played just nine total snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

  1. That sounds more like a back up than starter. I just can’t understand why, if they think Kush is ready, he didn’t play last year at guard. McGlynn wasn’t the answer and getting the kid some experience would help. Right?

    • I agree with what you’re saying. There’s no guarantee that Barnes will be signed, and even if he is, he would likely have to compete for a roster spot. KC should be looking at bargain free agents to bring to camp for added competition given their financial position.
