Chiefs Have Interest In Re-Signing G Geoff Schwartz

Deryk Gilmore, the agent for Chiefs free agent G Geoff Schwartz, recent mentioned that the two sides met during the Combine to discuss a contract extension and Kansas City expressed interest in retaining Schwartz.

“Geoff Schwartz loved it in Kansas City and would love to come back in Kansas City,” Gilmore said, via Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star. “It’s just that he wants to be wanted, and hopefully Kansas City wants him. He’s a starter and he wants to be paid like a starter.”

Schwartz widely considered to be one of the best available guards on the open market, and it sounds like he’s focused on securing the best deal possible.

Paylor writes that the contracts signed by the top free agent guards last year  — Andy Levitre and Louis Vasquez — are “hardly prohibitive salaries,” and could be the type of contracts that Schwartz will be looking for this offseason.

  • Andy Levitre: six-years, $46.8M total, $13M guaranteed, $7.8M annually.
  • Louis Vasquez: four-years, $23.5M total, $10M guaranteed, $5.875M annually.

Schwartz, 27, signed a one-year deal worth $630,000 with the Chiefs last year. He would go on to appear in all 16 games and grade out as the No. 8 guard in the league this past season, according to Pro Football Focus.

We have Schwartz listed as the No. 24 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
