Chiefs Interested In Re-Signing DL Mike DeVito

Herbie Teope of ChiefsDigest.com reports that the Chiefs have recently reached out to representatives for DL Mike DeVito and have expressed interest in re-signing him.

The Chiefs have around $33 million or so to work with this offseason, but also have a number of notable free agents to address, especially in the secondary.

DeVito hass said previously that he doesn’t want to move on and have to learn a new system, so there appears to be mutual interest in getting something done.

Where I’m at in my stage, you don’t want to go to a new system, new coaches, there’s a lot of stress that goes into that,” said DeVito. “It’s really a blessing to go back to a place you already know, coaches you’re familiar with.

DeVito, 31, took a pay cut to be back with the Chiefs last year after he sustained a torn Achilles during Week 1 of the 2014 season. DeVito has played out his three-year, $12.6 million contract and is now in line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks.

In 2015, DeVito appeared in 13 games and recorded 19 tackles and three sacks for the Chiefs. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 59 interior defensive lineman out of 123 qualifying players.
