Chiefs Looking To Retain OT Branden Albert

Ian Rapoport reports that the Kansas City Chiefs would like to retain OT Branden Albert and have talked to his representatives regarding a possible extension.

This comes shortly after Rapoport mentioned that the Chiefs are “actively pursuing” a long-term agreement for WR Dwayne Bowe.

Albert recently passed a physical, as there was some concern regarding his back.

If Kansas City aims to retain Albert, there’s no chance that they would target Texas A&M OT Luke Joeckel with No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. There’s been a lot of speculation that Kansas City would grab Joeckel and allow Albert to leave, but this is a pretty clear indication that they have other plans.

We have the Albert listed as the No. 12 best available player in our Top 50 Free agents list. We also have the Chiefs taking West Virginia QB Geno Smith with the No. 1 overall pick in our recently updated 2013 NFL Mock Draft.
