Chiefs Could Make CB Marcus Peters Available For Trade?

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk says that there are some in league circles who are wondering whether the Chiefs’ decision to trade for Kendall Fuller and sign David Amerson could lead to them making CB Marcus Peters available for trade.

Florio writes that while Peters has been one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, he’s also been player who has come with some issues. Last year, Peters seemingly attempted to get ejected from a game and before that, he got into an argument with a coach that led to him being suspended for a game.

For what it’s worth, Florio points out that Peters was actually drafted by John Dorsey, who is now the Browns’ general manager.

It would be surprising to see the Chiefs move on from their best cornerback when they’re trying to improve the unit overall, but strange things do happen during the offseason, so it’s at least something to keep an eye on in the coming months.

Peter, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2015. He is entering the final year of his four-year, $9.584 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,741,932 for the 2018 season.

The Chiefs will have to decide whether to pick up Peters’ fifth-year option in the coming months.

In 2017, Peters appeared in 14 games for the Chiefs and recorded 46 tackles, five interceptions, four forced fumbles, two recoveries with one being returned for a touchdown and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Peters as the news is available.
