Chiefs OL Rokevious Watkins Suspended Four Games

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Chiefs OL Rokevious Watkins has been suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Watkins, 25, still has two years remaining on his three-year, $1.485 million contract. In 2013, he appeared in four games, but was limited to playing just 88 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Chiefs lost both of their starting guards from last season in free agency, so this isn’t the type of news they want to hear regarding an interior offensive lineman. Even so, Watkins will have to compete for playing time with Jeff Linkenbachin training camp and the suspension should weigh heavily into the team’s decision as to who will be their starter in Week 1.
