Chiefs Could Part Ways With WR Donnie Avery

Adam TeicherĀ of ESPN.com was about potential release candidates for the Chiefs in his recent mailbag.

According to Teicher, veteran WR Donnie Avery could be release candidate, depending on whether or not they add a receiver in either the draft or free agency.

Teicher even mentions that ifĀ A.J.Ā Jenkins is able to make some progress during the offseason, that could be enough for the Chiefs to part ways with Avery.

Avery, 29, signed aĀ three-year, $8.55 million contract that included a $1.5 million signing bonus with the Chiefs last March. He carries a cap figure ofĀ $2.85 million for the 2014 season. The Chiefs could free upĀ $1.35 million by releasing him outright, according to OverTheCap.com.

In his first season with the team, Avery caught 40 receptions forĀ 596 yards receiving and two touchdowns.Ā Pro Football FocusĀ had him rated as the No. 105 receiver in the league out of 111 qualifying players.
