Chiefs Place CB Phillip Gaines On IR, Sign DT Stefan Charles

The Kansas City Chiefs announced Wednesday that they’ve placed CB Phillip Gaines on injured reserve and signed DT Stefan Charles to their active roster.

Gaines, 26, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2014. He’s in the final year of his four-year, $2,824,112 contract and stands to make a base salary of $700,000 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2017, Gaines appeared in 14 games for the Chiefs and recorded 30 tackles, no interceptions and three pass defenses.

Charles, 28, originally signed on with the Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Regina back in 2013. He was later signed off of the Titans’ practice squad by the Bills and spent three years in Buffalo. The Lions later signed him to a one-year contract in March of last year.

Jacksonville wound up waiving him as they trimmed their roster down to the 53-man limit.

In 2016, Charles appeared in 12 games and recorded 12 tackles and no sacks for the Lions.
