Chiefs Place RB Jamaal Charles On PUP List

Chiefs HC Andy Reid announced Wednesday that they’re placing RB Jamaal Charles on the active/PUP list to open training camp, per Herbie Teope.

Reid did, however, says that Charles is on track and they just want to be careful with him.

Players placed on the active/PUP list can return to practice once activated. However, if they remain on PUP list to start the regular season, they would miss at least the first six weeks.

Charles, 29, is in the third year of his four-year, $28 million contract that included $8.3 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $2.75 million (2016), and $3.75 million (2017) over the remainder of the contract.

Charles’ 2015 season ended with him rushing for 364 yards on 71 carries (5.1 YPC) to go along with 21 receptions for 177 yards receiving and five total touchdowns over the course of five games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 running back out of 69 qualifying players.
