Chiefs Place S Eric Berry On Injured Reserve, Sign OL Jordan Devey

The Kansas City Chiefs announced Saturday that they have officially placed S Eric Berry on the season-ending injured reserve after he sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon during Thursday’s win over the Patriots.

  • The Chiefs also signed OL Jordan Devy to fill his roster spot.

Berry, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010. He worked his way back from Hodgkin’s lymphoma and managed to produce an impressive 2015 season.

Berry played out his rookie contract with the team before receiving the team’s franchise tag back in February. However, the two parties ultimately agreed to a new six-year, $78 million contract that includes $29.8 million guaranteed

In 2016, Berry appeared in all 16 games and recorded 77 tackles, four interceptions with two being returned for touchdowns, a forced fumble and nine pass defenses for the Chiefs. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 safety out of 92 qualifying players.

Devey, 29, originally signed on with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Memphis back in 2013. He was unable to make the team’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but later signed on to the Patriots’ practice squad before returning to New England on a future/reserve contract.

The Patriots wound up trading him to the 49ers in return for TE Asante Cleveland” href=”http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/ClevAs00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-nfltraderumors.co” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>Asante Cleveland during the preseason.

The Chiefs later claimed Devey after he was cut by San Francisco. Kansas City signed him to their practice squad after he was among their final roster cuts. The Chiefs eventually promoted him to their active roster but waived him, once again, as they trimmed their roster down to the 53-man limit.

In 2016, Devey appeared in three games for the Chiefs.
