Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles Getting Knee Rechecked This Week

Chiefs HC Andy Reid told reporters after Sunday’s game that veteran RB Jamaal Charles is going to see Dr. James Andrews this week regarding this knee injury, per BJ Kissel.

The plan is for Charles to have his knee rechecked after experiencing some issues this past week.

Ian Rapoport reported a few days ago that Charles is still dealing with some swelling in his surgically repaired knee, so this is obviously a big concern for Charles, who hasn’t come close to seeing a normal workload since returning from an ACL tear he sustained last year.

Chiefs RB Spencer Ware left Sunday’s with a concussion, so Kansas City is hurting at running back right now.

Charles, 29, is in the third year of his four-year, $28 million contract that included $8.3 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $2.75 million (2016), and $3.75 million (2017) over the remainder of the contract.

This season, Charles has appeared in three games and rushed for 40 yards on 12 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with two receptions for 14 yards receiving and a touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding Charles as the news is available.
