Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles Will Make Season Debut On Sunday

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that despite being listed as questionable with a knee injury, Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles will make 2016 season debut Sunday night against the Steelers.

The Chiefs were obviously being cautious with Charles to open the year after he underwent surgery for an ACL tear last year.

It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs distribute carries between Charles and their other running backs on Sunday.

Charles, 29, is in the third year of his four-year, $28 million contract that included $8.3 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $2.75 million (2016), and $3.75 million (2017) over the remainder of the contract.

Charles’ 2015 season ended with him rushing for 364 yards on 71 carries (5.1 YPC) to go along with 21 receptions for 177 yards receiving and five total touchdowns over the course of five games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 running back out of 69 qualifying players.
