Chiefs Release DL Jaye Howard

Adam Schefter reports that the Chiefs have released DL Jaye Howard.

Schefter mentions that the Chiefs want Howard to sign with another team because it would return offset money to the team.

Howard, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2012. He lasted just over a year in Seattle before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Chiefs.

Howard re-signed with Kansas City last year and was was in the final year of his two-year, $10 million contract that included $8.26 million and set to make a base salary of $3.7 million for the 2017 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Howard will free up $3.875 million of available cap space while creating $2.5 million in dead money.

In 2016, Howard appeared in eight games for the Chiefs and recorded 24 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 55 interior defensive lineman out of 127 qualifying players.
