Chiefs Releasing Veteran WR Mike Williams

Terez A. Paylor is hearing that the Chiefs have released veteran WR Mike Williams Wednesday evening.

After sitting out the 2015 season, it was going to be difficult for Williams to crack the team’s 53-man roster in the coming weeks, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

Williams, 29, is a former fourth-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2010. He played out his rookie contract and later signed a six-year extension with the Bucs in July of 2013.

However, he had numerous off-the-field issues that led to the Buccaneers trading him to the Bills less than a year later for a sixth-round pick that later became Robert Herron. Buffalo elected to waive Williams towards the end of the 2014 season.

Williams signed a one-year, $760,000 contract with the Chiefs back in April.

In 2014, Williams appeared in five games and caught eight passes for 142 yards receiving and a touchdown.
