Chiefs S Eric Berry was carted off the field during the fourth quarter of Thursday’s season opener with an Achilles injury.

This is obviously a very concerning issue as an Achilles tear would cost Berry the rest of the season and lead to him being placed on injured reserve.

Hopefully, for Berry and the Chiefs, it’s not that bad.

Berry, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010. He worked his way back from Hodgkin’s lymphoma and managed to produce an impressive 2015 season.

Berry played out his rookie contract with the team before receiving the team’s franchise tag back in February. However, the two parties ultimately agreed to a new six-year, $78 million contract that includes $29.8 million guaranteed

In 2016, Berry appeared in all 16 games and recorded 77 tackles, four interceptions with two being returned for touchdowns, a forced fumble and nine pass defenses for the Chiefs. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 safety out of 92 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Berry’s injury as the news is available.
