Chiefs S Eric Berry Returns To Practice

Update:

Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed that S Eric Berry will practice for the first time this year on Wednesday.

“We’ll see how he does and we’ll ease him back into it,” Reid said of Berry.

According to Reid, there’s no pressure on Berry and it all depends on how he feels. Reid added that he has “no idea” if Berry plays on Sunday: “I think he’s as curious as we are to see how he feels.

“It’s great. It’s good to see him getting back healthy,” Reid said, per Brooke Pryor. “One thing about EB, this is killing him to watch. He loves to play. It tears him up not be out there. At the same time, we have to do what’s smart. That when those juices get going that everything’s OK in the long haul.

“I don’t worry about him in any of this. He’s been around this a long time. He’s come back from a life-threatening disease. And he’s honest. There’s no, one thing that’s taken place throughout this whole thing is great communication and honesty.”

Terez A. Paylor reports that Chiefs S Eric Berry plans be at the team’s facility on Tuesday with the intention of practicing this week.

According to Perez, it remains to be seen whether Berry will be able to play in Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

Berry is working his way back from an Achilles tear and has been dealing with Haglund’s deformity, which is a bone spur that digs into the Achilles.

Berry, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010. He worked his way back from Hodgkin’s lymphoma and managed to produce an impressive 2015 season.

Berry played out his rookie contract with the team before receiving the team’s franchise tag last year. However, the two parties ultimately agreed to a new six-year, $78 million contract that includes $29.8 million guaranteed.

Berry stands to make base salaries of $12.4 million and $9.4 million over the next two years.

In 2017, Berry appeared in one game and recorded seven tackles for the Chiefs.

We’ll have more regarding Berry as the news is available.
