Chiefs Sign Fifth-Round Pick QB Aaron Murray

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that they have signed fifth-round pick QB Aaron Murray.

The Chiefs were widely rumored to be considering selecting a quarterback in the 2014 NFL Draft.  Current starter QB Alex Smith is entering the final year of his contract and it has been circulated that the Chiefs would consider moving on from him, despite surrendering two picks in acquiring the signal caller.

Murray is most often described as a rhythm quarterback, who is able to move the chains when he is comfortable.  He is not particularly tall or athletic, but he demonstrates good anticipation, touch and accuracy on short to intermediate routes.

The Chiefs have QB Chase Daniel on the roster as well, and they are paying him $10 million over three years.  Accordingly, Murray may begin at No. 3 on the depth chart.

It should be noted that Murray did set an SEC record for touchdowns and yards while at Georgia, but he did tear his ACL late in his senior season.
