Chiefs Sign G Ben Grubbs To A New Four-Year, $24M Deal

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Chiefs signed newly acquired G Ben Grubbs to a four-year, $24 million contract.

  • According to Florio, Grubbs receives $8 million guaranteed at signing and another $3 million that becomes fully guaranteed if Grubbs is on the 90-man roster in March 2017.
  • Florio’s source mentioned that the Saints had asked Grubbs to reduce his 2015 salary from $6.6 million to $4.5 million, and accept little or no guaranteed money.

Kansas City sent a fifth-round pick to the Saints for Grubbs on Thursday, but given their current cap situation, it’s not surprising that they quickly got a new deal hammered out that’s more team-friendly in year one.

Grubbs, 31, appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and hasn’t missed a single game since the 2011 season last season. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 35 guard out of 78 qualifying players.
