Mahomes, 21, was taken with the No. 10 overall pick by the Chiefs after they somewhat surprisingly traded up to get him in round one. In total, the Chiefs gave up first and third-round picks in 2017 to go along with another first-round pick in 2018 for Mahomes.

Mahomes is clearly the Chiefs’ quarterback of the future, but it’s likely that he’ll sit behind Alex Smith in 2017.

Some felt Mahomes was the best quarterback prospect in this year’s class and even compared him to Brett Favre for his big arm and gunslinger mentality.

According to OverTheCap.com, Mahomes will receive a four-year contract worth $16,425,962, which includes a signing bonus of $10,086,1526. The contract also has a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2020.

During his college career, Mahomes threw for 11,252 yards while completing 63.5 percent of his passes to go along with 93 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He also rushed for 845 yards and 22 touchdowns at Texas Tech.
