Chiefs Sign RFA DT Xavier Williams After Cardinals Decline To Match Offer Sheet

Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports that the Chiefs have signed Cardinals restricted free agent DT Xavier Williams to a contract after Arizona declined to make their offer sheet.

The Cardinals used the right of first refusal restricted tender on Williams, which means they will not receive any draft pick compensation by declining to match the Chiefs’ offer sheet.

Williams, 26, wound up signing on with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Iowa back in 2015. He wound up playing out his three-year, $1,583,000 contract with the Cardinals as was testing the open market as a restricted free agent.

In 2017, Williams appeared in 11 games for the Cardinals and recorded 20 tackles, a half sack and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 42 interior defender out of 122 qualifying players.
