Mike Garafolo reports that the Chiefs are signing S Tyvon Branch to a one-year contract.

The Raiders released Branch in a move that freed up $2.986 million in available cap space. There was talk for a few months that Oakland could move on from Branch, so his release wasn’t all that shocking.

Many have suggested that the Ravens could make sense for Branch given that signing him wouldn’t impact their compensatory picks and they could really use safety help.

Branch, 28, had another three years remaining on his contract, but also had the highest cap figure on the team.

Last year, Branch appeared in three games and recorded 29 tackles, one sack and a pass defense for the Raiders’ defense.
