The Kansas City Chiefs signed third-round pick CB Phillip Gaines to a four-year contract on Thursday, according to his representatives.
Gaines is the third draft pick to sign his rookie contract with the Chiefs this week, so they could have their entire class locked up at some point this weekend.
Gaines is a very interesting player to watch for Kansas City given that he offers size at 6-foot 3/8 and posted a blazing forty time of 4.38 at this year’s Scouting Combine.
There has even been some talk his addition could lead the Chiefs to consider shopping CB Brandon Flowers around the league, but that remains purely speculation at this point.
At Rice, Gaines totaled 175 tackles, 11 for a loss, two sacks, four interceptions, a forced fumbles and two defensive touchdowns over the course of four seasons.
