Chiefs Sign ILB Anthony Hitchens To Five-Year Deal Worth Up To $49.5M

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chiefs are planning to sign former Cowboys ILB Anthony Hitchens to a contract that will pay him $9 million per year at the start of free agency on Wednesday.

  • Tom Pelissero reports that Hitchens receives a five-year, $45M deal from the Chiefs that includes a $14M signing bonus and $21.29M fully guaranteed at signing. The contract can max out at $49.25M with incentives.

The Colts had come up as the team to watch for Hitches now that they’ve hired former Cowboys coach Matt Eberflus as their defensive coordinator and plan to revamp their defense. However, it looks like the Chiefs wound up being his best option, as they look to revamp their defense.

Hitchens, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2,654,864 contract and made a base salary of $1.838 million for the 2017 season.

In 2017, Hitchens appeared in all 12 games for the Cowboys and recorded 84  tackles, no sacks, a forced fumble and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 20 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
