Chiefs Waive DB Bryce Cheek & WR Kenny Cook

The Kansas City Chiefs officially placed DB Bryce Cheek on waivers and cut WR Kenny Cook with the injury designation.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid told reporters that Cook suffered a torn quad and underwent surgery on Thursday to repair the issues, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise. Should Cook clear waivers on Friday, he would likely revert to their injured reserve list.

Cook, 24, wound up signing on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Gardner-Webb back in May of last year. He was waived at the start of the season and later signed to their practice squad.

The Chiefs elected to bring him back on a future/reserve contract in January.

Cook has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Cheek is an undrafted free agent out of Akron. He just signed on with the Chiefs last week, so his stay in Kansas City was, unfortunately, very short.

During his four-year college career, Cheek recorded 99 tackles, one tackle for a loss, an interception, two forced fumbles, two recoveries and seven pass defenses.
