Chiefs WR Donnie Avery Undergoing Surgery, Out For Week 5

Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports that Chiefs WR Donnie Avery will need to undergo surgery after he suffered a core muscle injury during Week 4’s win over the Patriots.

Avery is reportedly traveling to Philadelphia on Friday for the surgical procedure and will obviously sit out of the team’s Week 5 game against the 49ers.

Chiefs’ OC Doug Pederson mentioned that A.J. Jenkins will be the team’s No. 2 receiver with Avery out of the lineup.

Avery, 30, is entering the second year of his three-year, $8.55 million contract that included a $1.5 million signing bonus. His base salary for this season is $1.65 million and he’ll make another $2.7 million next year.

Over the course of four games, Avery has caught 14 passes for 156 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
