Chip Kelly Being Considered For Florida Head Coaching Job

Benjamin Allbright reported Monday morning that Chip Kelly being hired by the University of Florida was “picking up serious steam.”

Darren Heitner has confirmed that Florida is looking at Kelly possibly hiring as their next head coach and a decision could be as soon as this week.

According to Heitner, Florida has become very frustrated with agent Jimmy Sexton, who represents many of their other potential candidates for the job while Kelly is represented by David Dunn.

Kelly was reportedly hoping to remain in the NFL as a coach after he was fired by the 49ers, but the right opportunity never surfaced for him and he was eventually hired by ESPN as a studio analyst for the 2017 season.

Kelly was linked to some jobs including the Falcons’ offensive coordinator position before they went with Steve Sarkisian.

Kelly, 53, was hired by the Eagles back in 2013 as their head coach. He lasted just under three years in Philadelphia before he was fired during the 2015 season. The 49ers hired him as their head coach soon after but he spent just one season in San Francisco before he was fired.

Since taking the Eagles’ head-coaching job back in 2013, Kelly has produced a record of 28-35 (44.4 percent) as an NFL head coach for Philadelphia and San Francisco including one playoff appearance while he was with the Eagles.

We’ll have more regarding Kelly and potential landing spots as the news is available.
