Chip Kelly May Pursue Offensive Coordinator Opportunities

Jay Glazer mentioned on “Speak For Yourself” that sources have told him that 49ers GM Trent Baalke was undermining HC Chip Kelly for weeks to try to get him out.

Glazer added that Chip “just wants to be a football guy” and plans to pursue offensive coordinator jobs this offseason.

“Chip told me last night, ‘I’ll go be an offensive coordinator somewhere,” Glazer said.

Glazer mentioned that Kelly deserves a lot of credit for keeping the 49ers’ locker room together, despite Colin Kaepernick starting a national conversation with his anthem protest.

As of now, there are six teams in the market for new head coaches while other teams like the Jets could be looking for a new offensive coordinator. Some have wondered if the Patriots could be a landing spot for Kelly if Josh McDaniels takes a head-coaching job this offseason, considering that Kelly has a relationship with Patriots HC Bill Belichick.

Kelly, 53, was hired by the Eagles back in 2013 as their head coach. He lasted just under three years in Philadelphia before he was fired during the 2015 season. The 49ers hired him as their head coach soon after.

Since taking the Eagles’ head-coaching job back in 2013, Kelly has produced a record of 28-35 (44.4 percent) as an NFL head coach for Philadelphia and San Francisco including one playoff appearance while he was with the Eagles.
