An NFL source close to former Eagles and 49ers HC Chip Kelly tells Jason Cole of B/R that he has no interest in the Alabama offensive coordinator job now that Steve Sarkisian has departed for the Falcons’ offensive coordinator position.
Cole adds that Kelly’s focus remains on securing either another head-coaching job in the NFL or possibly taking an offensive coordinator position with an NFL team.
Kelly’s name gets mentioned whenever a notable college job opens. However, if he was interested in returning to the college game, he likely would have shown more interest in some of the head-coaching vacancies last month.
It’s still possible some team could bring him in as an advisor for the 2017 season and allow him to pursue a different position next year.
Kelly was linked to the Falcons’ offensive coordinator job in recent weeks before they went with Sarkisian.
Kelly, 53, was hired by the Eagles back in 2013 as their head coach. He lasted just under three years in Philadelphia before he was fired during the 2015 season. The 49ers hired him as their head coach soon after.
Since taking the Eagles’ head-coaching job back in 2013, Kelly has produced a record of 28-35 (44.4 percent) as an NFL head coach for Philadelphia and San Francisco including one playoff appearance while he was with the Eagles.
