Chip Kelly Says 49ers Aren’t An Option For Nick Foles

49ers HC Chip Kelly told reporters on Monday that they won’t pursue signing free agent QB Nick Foles, per Cam Inman.

Kelly, of course, coached Foles during his best season in the NFL in which he threw 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions for the Eagles.

There hasn’t been a lot of buzz regarding potential landing spots for Foles in recent days after the Rams cut him loose on Wednesday after he reportedly requested to be released.

Darren Wolfson reported last week that 10 or so teams including the Vikings were doing their due diligence on Foles.

The Cowboys said they aren’t interested in him and the idea of him ending up with the Bills has been shot down as well. The Jets elected to bring back Ryan Fitzpatrick and currently have four quarterbacks in camp, so they’re unlikely to be an option.

Foles, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. After three years in Philadelphia, Foles was sent to the Rams in a trade from the Eagles that shipped Sam Bradford to Philadelphia. He had one year remaining on his rookie contract when the Rams signed him to a two-year, $24 million extension back in August of last year.

In 2015, Foles completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 2,052 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
