Chip Kelly Says He Plans To Consider Everything Including Potential QB Change

49ers HC Chip Kelly said after Thursday night’s game that he plans to examine “everything” in the coming days, including the possibility of making a change at quarterback.

“I think we’re going to look at everything,” Kelly said. “We are 1-4, we have got to make sure we’re going out there and giving us the best chance to win so we’re going to look at everything.”

Blaine Gabbert struggled again on Thursday against the Cardinals, and many have wondered why they haven’t made the change to Colin Kaepernick.

Gabbert, himself, admitted that he has to play better moving forward.

“Yeah, I’ve got to play better,” Gabbert said. “There’s no question to that. I’ve got to do a better job leading this football team, executing this offense, scoring points, winning games, the whole nine yards. That’s just the way it goes. I’ve got to play better.”

Kaepernick’s conditioning has reportedly been one of the main factors, as to why he hasn’t pushed Gabbert for the starting job.

Gabbert, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2010. After three years in Jacksonville, he was traded to the 49ers in return for a sixth-round pick back in March of 2014.

Gabbert is currently in the final year of his two-year, $4 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1.75 million for the 2016 season.

This year, Gabbert has thrown for 890 yards while completing 58 percent of his passes to go along with five touchdowns and six interceptions for the 49ers. He has also contributed 172 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 34 quarterback out of 35 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a potential change at quarterback for San Francisco as the news is available.
