Chris Johnson Wants More Than Top RB Salary

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that sources have told him Titans RB Chris Johnson intends on holding out for not only the top running back salary but he expects to be paid as the league’s top playmaker.

Tennessee has said that they intend on making him the highest paid running back in the league but have yet to make Johnson an offer as of now.

Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt mentioned on Thursday that he intends on making RB Chris Johnson the highest paid running back in the league, per the Associated Press.

Tennessee has been negotiating with Chris Johnson’s agent since the lockout was lifted a few weeks ago. Reinfeldt added that Johnson’s presence at the teams training camp was contingent upon getting a deal finalized. Tennessee is installing a new offensive scheme so it’s important that they have their best player up to speed once the season starts.

Obviously Johnson is a very important component of the Titans but it’s hard to image that they would have any success without him. Johnson has said that he wants to be paid a record salary for running backs so it will be interesting to see how close the Titans get to that number.
