Chris Long Expected To Visit With Cowboys Next Week, Dallas Has “Definite Interest”

Update:

David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports that free agent Chris Long is expected to visit with the Cowboys next week.

While no visit has currently been scheduled, the Cowboys have “definite interest” in him, according to Moore.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter previously reported that was scheduled to visit with the Cowboys at some point, so this isn’t the first we’ve heard about Long being an option for Dallas.

Mark Daniels of the The Providence Journal reports the Patriots are showing interest in free agent DE Chris Long.

New England has met with the a number of free agents in recent days and there has been talk that they’re likely to turn their attention to the defensive side of the ball in the coming days.

Long is believed to have interest from the Cowboys, Falcons and Redskins, but Tiffany Blackmon reported that he plans to take another two or three visits before deciding on his next team.

Like S Eric Weddle, Long is being patient in determining where he’ll end in 2016.

Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN reports that free agent DE Chris Long is expected to decide on his next team soon.

According to Russini, Long wants to play for a winning team in 2016.

Long has visited with the Falcons and Redskins in recent days and was reportedly scheduled to visit with the Cowboys. There’s a chance he could take another visit if someone reaches out to him.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Long to a contract wouldn’t factor into a team’s 2017 compensatory picks.

Long, 30, was in the final year of his five-year, $60.31 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $9.75 million for the 2016 season when he was released.

In 2015, Long appeared in 12 games and recorded 19 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble for the Rams. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 98 edge defender out of 110 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 2016 Free Agents list.
