Chris Mortensen: Eagles QB Carson Wentz Should Be Ready For Week 1

Chris Mortensen of ESPN said on Tuesday’s “NFL Live” that he’s “starting to believe that Carson Wentz is going to be ready for the opener” based on what he’s hearing from sources.

Wentz has looked pretty good during the OTA practices open to the media and he said last month that he’s “very confident‘ he’ll be ready to go for the start of the regular season.

“Rehab has been great. Obviously, it’s not fun. It’s quite the process. It can be painful some days,” Wentz said, via NFL.com. “But so far everything is going well. Where I’m at I’m very confident. My goal is to be ready Week 1.”

Wentz says that even after the injury, he isn’t going to change how aggressive he is as a player.

“As far as changing as a player, there’s just things that I’ll continue to learn through my whole career,” Wentz said. “There’s times when you look back on the tape and maybe I should have avoided that (hit), know when to cut your losses. But overall, as an aggressive player, I’m not going to change, so to speak. I’m not going to let this slow me down going forward. I truly believe I’ll come back stronger than ever. Especially having to miss the playoffs, miss the Super Bowl. As exciting as it was there was just that little uneasiness inside of me to have to miss those games. I truly believe I’ll be back stronger than ever and I’m not too worried about it going forward.

Wentz was a clear MVP candidate at the time he was placed on injured reserve in December.

Wentz, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $26.7 million contract that included a $16.7 million signing bonus.

Wentz stands to make base salaries of $2.87 million and $4.08 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Wentz appeared in 13 games for the Eagles and threw for 3,296 yards while completing 60.2 percent of his passes to go along with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 299 yards.

We’ll have more regarding Wentz as the news is available.
