Christian Ponder Will Remain The Vikings Starting QB

The Minnesota Vikings chose to go with Christian Ponder yesterday despite the hip injury that he was dealing with but that decision may have cost them the game finished with two touchdowns and three interceptions while backup QB Joe Webb played well enough to lead the Vikings back and was about to score the go ahead touchdown when he fumbled despite having a defender grab his face mask.

Following the game Lions head coach Jim Schwartz praised Webb’s performance.

“Our hat is in full ‘off’ position to Joe Webb, because he was very, very difficult for us to handle,” said Schwartz, per Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN Radio. “We tried everything. We were spying him with five guys, we were spying him with four, we were playing coverage, we were all-out blitzing him — he’d make one guy miss and be out on the edge.

The Vikings have already stated that Ponder will remain the teams starting quarterback despite his eight interceptions in the last four games. One way or another the Vikings will have to figure out how to get Webb more playing time as he’s certainly deserving.
