Clay Matthews Undergoes Surgery On Thumb, No Timetable For His Return

Packers HC Mike McCarthy told reporters on Friday that OLB Clay Matthews has already undergone surgery on his injured thumb.

  • McCarthy added that there is no timetable for his return at this point in time.

Green Bay ruled Matthews out for Week 17 earlier this week and given that this is the second time that he’s injured his thumb this season, it seems likely that he is out for the season, barring a deep postseason run.

Matthews, 27, is in the first year of his new six-year, $69.73 million contract. As things stand right now, he has 40 tackles, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in just 11 games.
