Cliff Avril & Lions At An Impasse Regarding A Long-Term Contract?

Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press writes that the Lions are at an “impasse” with DE Cliff Avril regarding a long-term contract extension.

The Lions placed their franchise tag on him back in March, but Avril has made it more than apparent that he’s looking to get a long-term deal in place, rather than play out the 2012 season under a one-year guarantee of $10.6 million.

Detroit has been willing to discuss a deal with him, but there’s obviously an issue regarding Avril’s asking price. The fact that both sides would like to get this deal done is certainly encouraging. Hopefully, there’s some progress in the next few weeks months, instead of talking about Arvil being a possible holdout candidate.
