Report: Jets Pressing The “Pause Button” On A Darrelle Revis’ Trade

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reports, via Pro Football Talk, that the Jets are pressing the “pause button” on the trade that would send CB Darrelle Revis to the Buccaneers.

Paolantonio conforms that the Buccaneers are willing to offer “multiple picks” in return for Revis, which does include their 2013 first-round pick.

• Peter King wrote in his Monday Morning Quarterback column that the Bucs are willing to part with as much as first-, third-, and fifth-round picks for Revis.
• King adds that he’s not sure if any of these picks would be 2014 selections.
• If the Buccaneers were to keep their No. 13 overall pick, King believes they could target West Virginia WR Tavon Austin.

While the Jets may in fact be pressing the “pause button” on a Revis’ trade, it still seems likely that a deal will gain traction in the days leading up to the draft, which has been the expectation all along. New York has less incentive to trade Revis now, so it makes for them to wait and hope another team enters the picture and is willing to offer a competitive deal.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York confirms that the Jets organization is still upset with Darrelle Revis‘ decision to opt to have the Giants team doctor perform his knee surgery.

Revis was reportedly “chafed” by the team approaching him regarding the matter, which only adds to the growing list of disputes between the two sides.

While this isn’t a major issue at this point in time, it goes to show that the relationship between both sides continues to deteriorate.

Recent reports suggest the Buccaneers would be giving away their first, third and sixth-round pick in the 2013 draft in exchange for Revis, so hopefully there will be a resolution in the comings days.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Buccaneers are in fact willing to include their No. 13 overall pick in a trade for CB Darrelle Revis, but the Jets are reportedly looking for “a lot more” than that.

• Ian Rapoport reports that the Jets and Buccaneers are “closer than ever” to reaching an agreement for Revis.
  

Florio adds that it remains unclear what the Jets total asking price is for Revis, Florio mentions that they could be looking for a similar package as the Vikings received for Percy Harvin, which included a 2013 first-round pick , a 2013 seventh-round pick and a third-round pick in 2014.

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting the Darrelle Revis trade talks are being held up over a single pick.

The New York Jets have informed the Buccaneers any trade for Revis nothing less than Tampa’s first-round pick (13th overall) this year. Reports say the Bucs were willing to trade a 2014 first-round selection, but the Jets want the pick sooner.

The Jets, already with the ninth overall pick in the draft, are looking to stock up on young talent. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are hellbent on acquiring a defensive play maker, but general manager Mark Dominik has to decide whether the price is worth surrendering the selection.

Yahoo Sports’ Jason Cole has been told by sources that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have been actively involved in the Darrelle Revis discussion for quite some time now, may be growing “impatient” with the New York Jets to make a move.

Not only is Tampa reportedly willing to give up a first-, third- and sixth-round pick for Revis, Cole also states the team would be willing to pay upwards of $15-16 million annually for the talented 27-year-old defensive back.

• Rich Cimini reports that any team trading for Revis will be responsible for the $1 million roster bonus he was paid last month.
• According to a report by Tony Pauline, if the deal is to be done, it would happen prior to the NFL Draft. The Buccaneers would want the move done prior to the draft so they would have time to give Revis a team physical.

The Jets are apparently open to trading Revis and his large salary, according to team owner Woody Johnson. Dating back nearly a month, it appears that the Buccaneers have been the only club sincere about bringing in the six year NFL veteran.

Should the Buccaneers and Jets fail to come to terms, there is always a chance Revis could sign with a team via free agency. That option may be the more likely possibility, as Revis can opt out of his current deal at the end of this upcoming season. Should he elect to do so, the Jets will be unable to franchise tag him.
