Colin Kaepernick Expected To Report For Start Of 49ers’ OTAs On Monday.

Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News reports that 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is expected to report to the start of the 49ers’ OTAs on Monday.

It appeared as though Kaepernick was unlikely to report for the start of workouts next week, given that recent reports mentioned that the only thing holding up a trade right now is Kaepernick’s contract.

There is, however, a financial incentive for him attending OTAs, seeing as Kaepernick has a $400,000 workout bonus for 90 percent attendance, according to Adam Schefter.

Mike Klis pointed out earlier in the day that while Kaepernick would forfeit his $400,000 workout bonus from the 49ers by missing their first two weeks of offseason activities, he could make that money back from the Broncos, considering that their offseason program does not begin until April 18.

It will be interesting to see if Chip Kelly is able to change Kaepernick’s mind about seeking a trade out of San Francisco, and instead compete for the 49ers’ starting job with Blaine Gabbert.

Kaepernick, 28, is in the third year of his seven-year, $126.97 million contract that included $61 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $13.9 million for the 2016 season.

While those numbers are impressive on their own, the contract is essentially a pay-as-you-go agreement that includes ways for San Francisco to walk away with limited repercussions, as long as Kaepernick is healthy.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Kaepernick would free up $8,493,493 in available cap space and create $7,397,260 in dead money.

In 2015, Kaepernick threw for 1,615 yards while completing 59.3 percent of his passes to go along with six touchdowns and five interceptions over the course of eight games. He also added 228 yards rushing and a touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding a Kaepernick trade as the news is available.
