Colts Likely To Place C Ryan Kelly On Injured Reserve Following Foot Surgery, Candidate To Return

Update:

According to Ian Rapoport, Colts C Ryan Kelly is will likely be placed on injured reserve and end up being a candidate to be designated to return.

Adam Schefter confirms that Colts C Ryan Kelly is scheduled to undergo surgery on a bone defect in his foot on Friday and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

Colts HC Chuck Pagano told reporters on Thursday that rest and rehab didn’t work for C Ryan Kelly, who will now undergo foot surgery, per Stephen Holder.

Pagano added that there’s no specific timeline for Kelly’s return right now, but they’re preparing for him to miss some of the regular season.

The expectation was that Kelly would be out a few weeks, but it appears as though this timetable will be extended into the regular season.

The Colts recently hosted Jeremy Zuttah for a visit, so he could be brought in if they aren’t comfortable with their internal options. Another speculative option could be Nick Mangold, who is among the best available players.

Kelly, 24, is a former first-round pick by the Colts in last year’s NFL Draft. He is entering the second year of a four-year, $10.45 million rookie contract and is set to make a base salary of $925,045 and $1.4 million over the next two years.

In 2016, Kelly appeared in all 16 games for the Colts and ProFootballFocus rated him as the No. 22 overall center out of 39 qualifying players.
