According to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, they’re close to finally signing the first overall pick in this year’s draft, Andrew Luck, to a contract.
As we’ve previously mentioned, there have been a number of draft picks that have been looking to maximize the amount of guaranteed money included in their rookie deals, so it should come as no surprise that Luck would be one of these players. Now that draft picks are slotted, rookie and their representatives have very little room to negotiate. Last year, Cam Newton walked away with a four-year deal worth $22 million, so it’s safe to guesstimate that Luck’s contract will be pretty close that. He should be under contract in time to attend the first day of training camp, assuming there are no unforeseen setbacks.
