Colts DL Arthur Jones Needs Ankle Surgery, Candidate For Short-Term I.R.

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Colts DL Arthur Jones will require surgery on his ankle to repair torn ligaments.

  • Because of this, Rapoport mentions that Jones is a candidate for injured reserve with the designation to return.
  • Rapoport adds that Jones may have joint damage as well, and there’s still a chance he could be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports that the Colts have discussed the possibility of placing DL Arthur Jones on short-term injured reserve while he recovers from an ankle injury.

Earlier in the day, Josina Anderson reports that Jones was seeking a second opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson, another foot and ankle specialist, who will review his foot and ankle scans.

According to Anderson, Jones previously visited with a foot and ankle specialist the Colts referred him to, who determined the ankle injury was not season-ending.

This move would cost Jones at least the first eight games of the season, but the Colts wouldn’t have to carry him on their active roster for the time being.

Jones, 29, is in the second year of his five-year, $33 million contract that included a $16 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $6 million (2015), $4.5 million (2016), $6.25 million (2017) and  $6.25 million (2018) over the remainder of the contract.

In 2014, Jones appeared in nine games for the Colts and recorded 23 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 62 defensive end in a 3-4 out of 83 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Jones as the news is available.
